You are not buying a seat on a scheduled trip with forty strangers and a fixed loudspeaker commentary — you are renting the entire vessel, and the route, the music, the swim stops and the lunch hour are yours to set.
That distinction matters more in Malta than almost anywhere else in the Mediterranean. The islands are compact: Portomaso to the Blue Lagoon is around forty minutes at cruising speed, Gozo is a comfortable hour, and Grand Harbour is fifteen minutes from Sliema Creek. A single eight-hour rental can genuinely deliver three islands, four swim stops and a sunset return, which is why the full-day format outsells every other option we offer.
Every yacht on this page is commercially registered with Transport Malta and carries passenger liability insurance. The skipper is licensed, local and has usually worked these waters for a decade or more. That is the baseline, not the upgrade — and it is the first thing you should verify with any operator, including us.
The rest is preference. Some guests want a fast open cruiser and a cool box. Others want a crew of five, a chef, a Seabob and a five-cabin interior for a week. Reading a Malta rental quote
The single biggest source of confusion in this market is the difference between a headline price and a total price. A €1,900 day rate that excludes fuel, harbour dues, the Comino anchorage fee and the skipper is not cheaper than a €1,900 all-in rental — it is usually more expensive by the time you are back on the pontoon, and you will not know the final number until the day is over.
Our quotes state the total you will pay before you board. Fuel for the agreed route, generator hours, insurance, harbour dues, marina berth, Comino fees, water, soft drinks, ice, towels and snorkelling gear are inside the number. Catering, premium drinks, motorised toys, transfers and photography sit underneath as separate, optional lines you can add or remove without renegotiating the rental itself.
Two things can change the total after booking. The first is a route extension requested on the day, charged at the hourly rate on your quote. The second is a decision to move from a Comino day to a Sicily crossing, which changes fuel, crew hours and port formalities. Both are agreed with you in writing before anything is committed.

Which yacht should you rent?
Rent a day cruiser if you are two to six people, want the lowest entry price into skippered rental, and care more about swimming in small bays than about an interior. It is fast, simple and the easiest yacht in the fleet to fall in love with.
Rent a catamaran if your group mixes ages, if anyone is nervous about motion, or if you want the largest possible amount of shaded deck for eight hours in July. Two hulls barely roll at anchor, which changes the whole day for a nervous swimmer.
Rent a flybridge motor yacht if you want the classic Malta day: fast to Comino, air conditioning below, a proper bathing platform and a shaded upper deck for lunch. This is the safest all-round choice for a family of eight.
Rent a fully crewed motor yacht if the day is an occasion — a company event, a milestone birthday, a proposal — and you want a hostess, a chef and service that matches a good hotel. The price step is real, and so is the difference.

Licensing, marinas and what your quote actually covers
Charter in Malta is regulated. Every yacht we place guests on is commercially registered and licensed for charter under Malta's commercial yacht framework, administered by Transport Malta's Merchant Shipping Directorate. That distinction matters more than any marketing claim on this page, so here is how to check it and what it changes for you.
Commercially licensed charter vs. a private boat hired out
Passenger limit. A commercially registered charter yacht carries a maximum of 12 guests under way. Anyone offering you 15 or 20 guests on one yacht for a coastal day is not operating within that framework.
Insurance that answers. Commercial charter cover includes passenger liability. A private pleasure policy generally does not cover paying guests, which is the risk nobody discovers until there is a claim.
Qualified crew. Skippers hold commercial certification and the yacht carries the survey-approved safety equipment for the area it operates in.
A written contract. You receive a charter agreement naming the yacht, the hours, the guest count and the total. Ask for one; a WhatsApp price with no paperwork is a warning sign.

A full-day skippered rental starts at €1,900 on the 11.5m Axopar 37ST and runs to €10,900 per day for the fully crewed 26m Sunseeker 86. Half days start at €1,430 and sunset rentals at €1,430. Weekly rentals begin at €34,800. Those prices include the yacht, crew, fuel for the agreed route, insurance, harbour dues and Comino fees; catering, premium drinks, water toys and transfers are quoted separately.
Is yacht rental the same as yacht charter in Malta?
In practice, yes. Both mean exclusive private use of a licensed yacht with a professional skipper. Maltese operators tend to say rental for shorter, day-based bookings and charter for multi-day or crewed programmes, but the licensing, insurance and safety rules are identical.
Do I need a boat licence to rent a yacht in Malta?
Not for anything on this page. Every yacht is offered skippered or fully crewed, so the licence, the navigation and the responsibility sit with the professional on board. Bareboat rental is possible separately if you hold a recognised skipper's licence and a VHF certificate, and it always carries a security deposit.
How many guests can I take on a Malta yacht rental?
Maltese commercial licences cap day rentals at twelve guests plus crew. Overnight numbers are limited by cabins, typically four to ten sleeping guests. Larger groups are handled by renting two or more yachts in convoy on the same route with the same lunch and timings.
Where do yacht rentals depart from in Malta?
Most rentals leave from Portomaso Marina in St Julian's. We also embark from Msida and Ta' Xbiex Marina, Sliema Creek, Grand Harbour Marina in Birgu and Mġarr Marina in Gozo. Your confirmation names the exact pontoon, not just the marina.
Can I rent a yacht in Malta for just a few hours?
Yes. Half-day rentals run four hours, morning or afternoon, and sunset rentals run two and a half to three hours. Shorter bookings are possible in the shoulder season when the calendar is quiet, and extra hours can be added on the day if the skipper's hours allow.
What is included in the rental price?
The yacht, the crew, fuel for the agreed route, generator hours at anchor, full commercial insurance, harbour dues, the marina berth, Comino anchorage fees, chilled water and soft drinks, ice, beach towels, snorkelling gear and a floating swim mat. Nothing on that list appears again as a surcharge.
Can we bring our own food and drink?
On most yachts, yes, and there is no corkage. On crewed yachts with a chef we ask that main meals come from the galley for hygiene and safety reasons, but you are welcome to bring a celebration cake or a particular bottle.
Can we visit the Blue Lagoon?
Yes — it is the single most requested stop on any Malta yacht rental. We recommend departing by 09:00 to anchor before the ferries arrive, then moving to the Crystal Lagoon or Santa Marija Bay when the crowds build after 11:00.
What happens if the weather is bad?
The skipper monitors the forecast for seventy-two hours before departure. If conditions are unsafe or would simply ruin the day, we offer a free date move or a full refund of everything you have paid. We never sell a day we would not go out on ourselves.
Are children allowed on board?
Yes, and children are extremely common on our rentals. We carry child-size buoyancy aids, choose shallow and sheltered swim stops, and our catamaran is by far the most stable option for young families.
How far in advance should I book a yacht rental in Malta?
Four to eight weeks for July and August, one to two weeks in the shoulder season. That said, cancellations and repositioning gaps appear constantly, so a short-notice enquiry is always worth sending.
What is the deposit and payment schedule?
Fifty percent confirms the yacht and the date; the remaining fifty percent is due seven days before departure. We accept card, SEPA bank transfer and Revolut, and issue a VAT invoice immediately.
Can we rent a yacht overnight or for a week?
Yes. Overnight rentals sleep at anchor in a Gozo bay or on the pontoon at Mġarr, with air conditioning on the generator. Weekly rentals cover Malta, Gozo and Comino at a slower pace, with Sicily reachable on the larger yachts when the forecast is settled.
Are water toys included?
Snorkelling gear, a floating mat and, on most yachts, paddleboards or kayaks are included. Motorised toys such as a Seabob or jet ski are an add-on because they carry their own insurance, fuel and, in the case of a jet ski, a licensed instructor.
Can you arrange transfers from my hotel?
Yes. A Mercedes V-Class from any hotel, villa, the airport or the cruise terminal costs from €95 each way and is timed to have you at the pontoon fifteen minutes before departure.
Do you rent yachts for corporate events and photo shoots?
Regularly. We supply insurance certificates, method statements and risk documentation for compliance teams, invoice with VAT, and can hold multiple yachts on the same route for larger groups.
Is tipping expected?
It is never included and never expected. If the crew have made the day, five to ten percent of the rental price handed to the skipper for the whole crew is the Mediterranean norm.
Chartering has its own vocabulary and its own small print. Both are set out plainly here so nothing about your booking is a surprise.
Charter glossary
Crewed charter
The yacht comes with its professional crew — typically captain, deckhand and hostess, plus a chef on larger yachts. You are a guest on board and nothing is self-service.
Skippered charter
A licensed local skipper drives the yacht, but there is no interior crew. The most common format for a private day charter in Malta.
Bareboat charter
You skipper the yacht yourself. Malta requires a recognised boating licence and, on many yachts, evidence of recent sea miles plus a refundable security deposit.
APA (Advance Provisioning Allowance)
A fund of typically 25–35% of the charter fee held on superyachts to cover fuel, food, drink, berthing and shore excursions. Anything unspent is returned after the charter.
Day charter
An 8-hour private charter, usually 09:00 to 17:00, most often routed to Comino's Blue Lagoon, Crystal Lagoon and the Gozo coast.
Half day charter
A 4-hour private charter, morning, afternoon or sunset — the shortest format we arrange on crewed yachts.
Embarkation
Boarding at the marina. Malta departures are from Portomaso, Grand Harbour Marina, Msida, Ta' Xbiex or Mgarr in Gozo.
Twelve-guest rule
Commercially licensed yachts may carry a maximum of 12 guests while under way. Larger groups are possible for static events alongside in harbour.
Delivery fee
A charge applied when a yacht must reposition to a marina other than its home berth for your embarkation or disembarkation.
Shoulder season
May, June, September and early October: warm water, calmer anchorages, fewer boats and lower rates than peak July and August.

Licensing and insurance
Every yacht we place guests on holds a valid Maltese commercial charter licence and current third-party and passenger liability insurance. We send you the licence and insurance certificate for your specific yacht before any balance payment is due.
Deposit and balance
A 50% deposit confirms your yacht and dates. The balance is due 7 days before departure. Payment is by bank transfer or credit card, in euro, against a written charter agreement naming the yacht, crew, route and inclusions.
Cancellation
Cancel more than 30 days before departure and the deposit is transferable to any other date within 12 months. Inside 30 days the deposit is retained. We recommend travel insurance covering charter cancellation.
Weather policy
If the captain judges conditions unsafe, you are offered a sheltered alternative route, a change of date, or a full refund of monies paid — your choice. Malta's coastline always offers a lee shore, so a full cancellation is rare.
Privacy
Charters are exclusive-use: no shared decks and no other parties on board. We sign NDAs on request and never publish guest names, photographs or itineraries.
