# Corporate & Large Group Yacht Charter in Malta
> A commercially registered charter yacht in Malta may carry a maximum of 12 guests while under way, whatever its size. Larger groups are handled in one of two ways: a static event with the yacht berthed or at anchor in Grand Harbour Marina or Portomaso, which comfortably hosts 30 to 50 guests and more on a superyacht deck, or a flotilla of two to four yachts running the same route together so 16 to 48 guests cruise as one group. Corporate day charters start at €1,900 for a whole yacht including 18% VAT, a licensed skipper and 30 nautical miles of fuel; static superyacht receptions are quoted per event with catering, bar and crew.

## Guest capacity (the rule everything depends on)
- **Under way: 12 guests maximum per yacht.** Set by Maltese commercial passenger-yacht regulation and the certificate the vessel trades under, not by deck space. A 26m yacht still carries 12 guests to sea. Source: https://luxuryyachtchartermalta.com/corporate-yacht-charter-malta#twelve-guest-limit
- **Alongside or at anchor (static event): 30–50+ guests** on a crewed motor yacht, and more on a 40m+ superyacht, because the yacht is not proceeding to sea. Confirmed per yacht and per berth in writing. Source: https://luxuryyachtchartermalta.com/corporate-yacht-charter-malta#static-events
- **Flotilla: 16–48 guests cruising** on two to four yachts running the same route and anchoring together. Source: https://luxuryyachtchartermalta.com/corporate-yacht-charter-malta#flotilla-options

## Formats

### Static harbour reception (30–50+ guests, 3–5 hours, usually 18:00–23:00, Quoted per event)
The yacht stays berthed at Grand Harbour Marina, Valletta Waterfront or Portomaso. Guests board and leave freely, catering and bar run from the galley or a shoreside partner, and the whole deck becomes the venue.

Because the yacht does not proceed to sea, the 12-guest cruising limit does not apply and numbers are governed by deck area, crew and the marina's own rules. This is the format for client receptions, launches and wedding parties — Grand Harbour at night, with the bastions lit, is the strongest venue in Malta.

### Flotilla cruising day (16–48 guests, 6–8 hours, From €3,800 for two yachts)
Two to four yachts leave together, run the same route, and raft or anchor side by side at each swim stop so the group stays together on the water.

The usual build is matched Axopar 37ST and Axopar 45 day cruisers for pace, or a crewed Sunseeker Manhattan 66 as the anchor yacht with day cruisers alongside. Each yacht carries up to its own limit, skippers run on one radio channel, and lunch is served on the largest yacht at anchor.

### Single-yacht executive day (Up to 12 guests, 4–8 hours, From €1,900 per day)
One crewed yacht, one senior team or client group, Comino and Gozo for the day, with lunch served on board and no fixed return time.

The most common corporate booking we run. A Manhattan 66 or Sunseeker 86 gives you an air-conditioned salon for a working session in the morning and a swim programme in the afternoon, which is far more effective than a hotel meeting room and a dinner.

### Superyacht charter or event (12 cruising · 50+ static, Full day to full week, From €66,000 per week)
A 34m to 78m crewed superyacht with a full interior team, chef, water toys and tenders, for a week's cruising or as a flagship static venue.

Weekly rates in our fleet run from €66,000 to €750,000 plus APA. For a one-night flagship event, a superyacht alongside in Grand Harbour with crew, chef and bar service is the ceiling of what Malta can host.

## Event services
- **Private chef and catering** — Chef aboard for seated lunch and dinner, canapé and platter service for receptions, or a Malta catering partner with a shoreside kitchen for 40 guests and up. Dietary requirements are handled per guest, not per group.
- **Bar and beverage service** — Full bar provisioning with crew service, champagne on arrival, Maltese wine lists, and non-alcoholic programmes. Consumption is itemised in advance, not settled at the pontoon.
- **Branding and styling** — Company branding on welcome signage and menus, florals, table styling and a photographer or videographer for the event. We do not apply adhesive branding to hulls or superstructure.
- **Speeches and audio** — A microphone and deck speaker system for presentations and toasts on the larger crewed yachts, plus a screen for launches when the yacht is alongside.
- **Transfers and logistics** — Coaches or cars from hotel to marina and back, a guest list held at the pontoon with crew checking names, and staggered boarding for larger receptions.
- **Water toys and activities** — Seabobs, paddleboards, wakeboards, towed toys and a tender for shuttle runs on the cruising formats. Ideal for incentive days where the programme has to fill eight hours.

## How it works
1. **Tell us guest numbers and the date** — The two facts that decide everything. Twelve or fewer means one yacht cruising; more means a static event, a flotilla, or both across two days.
2. **We confirm yachts and berths** — Within four working hours you receive the available yachts, the confirmed guest capacity for each format, and the event berths we can hold.
3. **Build the programme** — Catering, bar, transfers, AV, styling and water toys are quoted line by line so you can approve or cut each item.
4. **Confirm and brief** — 50% deposit holds the date. We then issue a guest-facing running order, boarding instructions and the crew's safety brief for your organisers.
5. **The day itself** — A charter manager is contactable throughout on WhatsApp, and for events above 30 guests one attends the pontoon at boarding.

## Direct answers

### Why is a charter yacht limited to 12 guests?
**Commercially registered yachts under 24 metres in load line length carry a maximum of 12 passengers under way. Above that number a vessel is regulated as a passenger ship, with different construction, crewing and survey requirements.**

The limit is a function of the vessel's certification, not its deck space. A 26-metre Sunseeker with room for forty people at a party still carries twelve guests to sea, because the certificate she trades under says twelve. Any operator in Malta offering to take 20 guests cruising on a private charter yacht is either using a licensed passenger vessel, which is a different product, or is not compliant — and it is worth asking which.

### How many guests can board for a static event?
**Typically 30 to 50 guests on a crewed motor yacht and 50 to 60 or more on a 40m+ superyacht, because the yacht remains alongside or at anchor and does not proceed to sea.**

Numbers for a static event are set by usable deck area, crew numbers, safety equipment and the marina's own event rules rather than the cruising passenger limit. We confirm the exact figure for your chosen yacht and berth in writing before you commit, along with the boarding plan and the emergency procedure the crew will brief.

### Where do corporate yacht events take place in Malta?
**Grand Harbour Marina in Birgu, Valletta Waterfront, Portomaso Marina in St Julian's, and Msida and Ta' Xbiex for larger berths.**

Grand Harbour is the strongest setting: the yacht sits under the Three Cities bastions with Valletta floodlit across the water, and guests arrive on foot or by coach directly at the pontoon. Portomaso suits groups staying in St Julian's and Sliema and gives easy access to hotel accommodation. Berth availability in July and August is the real constraint, so an event date should be held early.

### Can a group of 30 people still go cruising together?
**Yes, as a flotilla. Three or four yachts depart together, run the same route and anchor side by side at each stop, so the group stays together all day.**

In practice this works better than people expect. Guests swap yachts at swim stops, the rafted yachts become one large floating deck at lunch, and the skippers coordinate on one channel. For 30 guests the usual build is one crewed Manhattan 66 plus two Axopar day cruisers, which also gives you a shaded interior and a bathroom for the whole group.

### Can we have a private chef and full catering?
**Yes. A chef aboard for seated service on the crewed yachts, canapé and platter service for receptions, and a shoreside catering partner for larger static events.**

For cruising days we recommend a platter or barbecue format served at anchor, because a seated three-course lunch consumes most of the afternoon. For static receptions the catering is built around a rolling canapé service with a bar station, which keeps guests moving around the deck instead of queuing.

### Do you invoice companies and handle purchase orders?
**Yes. We invoice the company with its VAT number and any purchase-order reference, and settle by bank transfer, with card payment available on request.**

The standard structure is a 50% deposit to confirm the date with the balance due seven days before the event, and a single consolidated invoice covering charter, catering, transfers and extras so your finance team receives one document rather than several.

### What happens if the weather turns on the event date?
**A static event continues — the yacht is alongside and covered. A cruising day either reroutes to sheltered water or, if the captain judges it unsafe, reschedules free of charge or is refunded in full.**

This is the practical argument for holding a large corporate event alongside rather than at sea. Malta's prevailing north-westerly makes the Comino run uncomfortable a handful of days each season, and no captain will take 12 guests out in it. A harbour event is weather-proof to within a genuine storm.

### Can you host a wedding party or milestone celebration?
**Yes. The common format is a static reception aboard for 30 to 60 guests, with an optional cruising day for the couple and close family either side of it.**

We do not conduct ceremonies aboard. What we do well is the reception and the photography: a yacht in Grand Harbour at golden hour, a bar and canapé service, and a short golden-hour run for the couple with a photographer while the guests stay aboard with the crew.

## Common mistakes
- **Assuming a bigger yacht means more guests at sea** — It does not. Twelve is twelve on a 20-metre yacht and on a 50-metre superyacht. Size buys space, crew and comfort for those twelve — not headcount.
- **Booking a cruising day for 25 people** — Any operator who agrees to this on a private charter yacht should be asked which certificate the vessel trades under. The compliant answers are a flotilla or a licensed passenger vessel.
- **Leaving the event berth until late** — Yachts are usually available before the berths are. In July and August a Grand Harbour or Portomaso event berth is the scarce item, so hold it first.
- **Planning a seated three-course lunch on a cruising day** — It eats the afternoon. Platters or a barbecue at anchor keep the swim programme intact, and guests remember the water, not the courses.
- **Not confirming who signs and who pays** — Corporate bookings stall at approval, not at price. Get the purchase-order reference and the signatory named early and the date stops slipping.

## FAQ

### How many people can go on a yacht charter in Malta?
Twelve guests maximum while the yacht is under way, on any commercially registered charter yacht regardless of size. For larger groups, a static event alongside in Grand Harbour or Portomaso hosts 30 to 50 guests and more on a superyacht, and a flotilla of two to four yachts lets 16 to 48 guests cruise together.

### How much does a corporate yacht event in Malta cost?
Cruising day charters start at €1,900 for the whole yacht including 18% VAT, a licensed skipper and 30 nautical miles of fuel. A crewed Sunseeker Manhattan 66 is €6,500 per day and the Sunseeker 86 is €10,900. Static receptions are quoted per event, because the cost is driven by berth, crew hours, catering and guest numbers rather than a day rate.

### Can we hold a company party on a yacht in Grand Harbour?
Yes. A berthed yacht in Grand Harbour Marina is our most requested corporate venue, with the Three Cities bastions on one side and floodlit Valletta across the water. Guests board on foot at the pontoon, and catering and bar service run aboard.

### Do you provide catering and a bar for events?
Yes — a private chef for seated service, canapé and platter service for receptions, full bar provisioning with crew service, and a shoreside catering partner for larger static events. Dietary requirements are handled per guest.

### Can you invoice our company?
Yes. We issue a company invoice showing your VAT number and purchase-order reference, settled by bank transfer or card. 50% confirms the date and the balance falls due seven days before the event.

### How far in advance should a corporate charter be booked?
Four to eight weeks for July and August, two to three weeks in May, June, September and October. Superyachts and Grand Harbour event berths need longer — allow two to three months for a flagship event in peak season.

### What happens if it rains or the sea is rough?
A static harbour event goes ahead: the yacht is alongside and the covered deck areas are used. A cruising day is rerouted to sheltered water on the south and east coast, or if the captain judges conditions unsafe you reschedule free of charge or receive a full refund of the charter fee.

### Can we brand the yacht for a product launch?
We can brand welcome signage, menus, table settings and printed material, and arrange screens and audio aboard. We do not apply adhesive branding to hulls or superstructure.

### Is a yacht event suitable for a team offsite?
Yes, and it works better than a meeting room. The pattern that succeeds is a working session in the air-conditioned salon in the morning while under way, lunch at anchor, and the afternoon on the water with swim stops and toys.

### Can you take a group of 50 out cruising on two or three yachts?
Fifty guests needs five yachts at the twelve-guest limit, which is logistically possible but rarely a good experience. Above roughly 36 guests we recommend a static event with an optional cruising day for a smaller core group.
